in the oakland area are seeing expanded police and security patrols, this after an increase in burglaries and other crimes. tomas roman is live in the east bay. >> we're here in berkeley at the shopping district, and crime isn't a big problem here. but just over the boredder in oakland, robberies, burglaries and homicides are on the rise and oakland police are asking for help from nearby agencies. >> montclair village is a shopping district that is three blocks long, two blocks wide at the foot of the oakland hills. it's seeing an increase in crime. >> we have been seeing a lot more home invasions and burglaries. so, anything that can help control it, i'm for it. reporter: help is on the way in the form of bail arm company. they will patrol the area in an effort to help the oakland police department. the company will respond to calls from its existing customers as well as any other merchant in need. howard says their presence is being felt. >> we see a fair amount of patrols of the shopping district and come up and down the street. we see a lot of the various alarm companies driving up an

there are no suspects and police are investigating. >>> police are investigating a homicide in east oakland. authorities responded last flight to a possible domestic violence incident. a woman was shot and killed. there were children inside the home but they were not hurt. a short time later a man called police and turned himself in. >> funeral services will be held this weekend for two teen girls shot in oakland last month. services for the 16-year-old will be held today at colonial chapel. tomorrow they will be held for the 15-year-old. they were found on november 25th near brook dale park. no arrests have been made. >> kat williams has been arrested. sheriff deputies found him last night at a gas station. he was wanted on a felony warrant for leading the chp on a chase. officers say he almost hit five people while riding a three wheeled motorcycle on the sidewalk. he also faces assault charges for this incident with a target store employee. >> the nation's highest court has agreed to address the issue of same sex marriage. the united states supreme court said yesterday it'll hear two cases challe

to rob prostitutes. butler has already pleaded guilty and is in prison. >>> oakland police report the arrest of a suspect in a shooting that left a man in serious condition this morning. police say it happened just after 9:00 a.m. near east 31st street and 13th avenue. they say that the suspect shot the victim several times, then ran off and jumped into a car. police did get the license plate number from a witness and caught up with him near the fruitvale district at about 10:30 a.m. they have not yet released the name of the suspect but say a gun was thrown from his car. >>> coming up at 5:30, what oakland police are saying today about the suspect arrested for an attack on an autistic teenager. >>> a big jump in home prices shows the housing market is bouncing back. there was a 6.3% increase in october compared to a year ago. prices were up in a total of 45 states including california. we saw a 9% gain. at 6:00, there are signs after housing boom in one east bay community. the unusual call some homeowners are receiving from realtors. >>> on capitol hill today republicans and demo

(male announcer) live from the kron 4 news station, this is the kron 4 news. oakland city leaders, battling a big jump in a crime. today -- they're laying out new strategies. all this, as the city's police department faces record-low staffing levels. and previous plans to stop the violence this year -- have seemingly failed. now for a look at the most recent crime statistics out of oakland. 119 murders this year -- that's up 21-percent from the same period last year. 210 rapes -- up 23-percent. nearly 4-thousand robberies -- a 23-percent increase. and more than 12-thousand burglaries -- a jump of 44- precent. >> reporter: there 2012 policies did not work. the is what they've been saying, so the want to do two things, there were to contract out public safety experts that ephod crime in the los angeles, detroit, what advice to take and what approach to take. second, there would to neighborhood policing with five different areas. two of them in the east oakland area with captions on each one with crime-fighting specializing in their area. >> we have to do something. what we did last

now for a murderer after a 15-year-old girl was shot to death at an east oakland housing complex around 3:40 yesterday afternoon at 66th avenue and lion way. police say it appears the victim was walking with a group of people when a lone gunman approached them and opened fire. a 14-year-old boy was shot and his injuries are not life- threatening. witnesses say the shooter appeared to be between the angles of 13 and 16. -- between the ages of 13 and 16 bringing oakland's homicide number to 160 this year, 20% more than last year. san francisco has a third increase over 2011. san jose's 45 is relatively low for a city of its size up 12.5% from last year. >>> the numbers of drunk driving arrests and of fatal accidents are down this holiday weekend compared to last year. the chp reports on the first two days of the new year's weekend. the chp made 723 drunk driving arrests since friday night across the state, more than 200 fewer than last year. accidents killed nine people in california down from 12 in the sam period a year ago. local transit agencies are offering an alternative to dr

used the stolen credit cards. >> alameda county's of bomb squad shut down this section of oakland in an attempt to remote old at&t. if this is video from abc 7 news. some residents were evacuated after police learned someone wanted to turn in some old at&t from world war 2. the bomb squad was called in to remove the more than 5 lbs. of the explosives. police also had to close off the 900 block of the 36 street at market. >> some mall shoppers and sacramento were set into a panic after they heard what sounded like gunshots. this was the scene yesterday shoppers ran from the art and fair mall. mall security say that the noise was actually coming from a brawl that broke out involving 20 people. officials say they found no evidence of a shooting. many stores went into lockdown, closing their metal gates when the fight started. police believe that sound so large signs falling over may have led people to report shots being fired. the mall has since been reopened for people involved in the brawl were arrested. >> coming up on kron 4 morning news. we will tell you what officials and newto

-50s in oakland. 53 in san francisco. 54 out in vallejo. and the rain makes the comeback here coming up shortly by the end of the week. so we'll show you a look at the seven-day forecast. we're talking traffic. here's gianna. >> we are going to head to our bay area bridge and you can see not too bad so far, so good as you work your way towards the toll plaza. we had some early morning roadwork on the upper deck between the cantilever section and fremont. that should be wrapped at least by 5:00. the rest of your bay area bridges problem-free including the golden gate bridge just north of there though south 101 near sir francis drake two lanes shut down for construction. that will be there at least until 6:00. but you can see the golden gate bridge smooth sailing into san francisco. the dumbarton bridge both directions only one lane open looks like you might see some slight delays. that should be wrapped up by 5:00 this morning as well. use the san mateo bridge as an alternate. also 880 not showing any delays north- or southbound. we have some roadwork reported in both directions right
